How I Voted

October31

Now that I’ve finished my dinner and made lunch for tomorrow, I’ll tell you how I voted.

Senate: George Allen (R)

I’m less than happy about the way he’s campaigned.  However, I honestly believe that Webb is truly sexist.  Sure, the article may have been written before I was born, but I really don’t think he was just participating in debate about women’s roles.  If that was the case, why would he attack their sexuality or imply the only reason they were there was for sex?  That had nothing to do with the role of women in the military.

Webb went after Wal-Mart.  I’m tired of this anti-Wal-Mart campaign.  I support capitalism and as someone without a ton of spare cash sitting around, I appreciate the competition to bring prices down.  What happens the next time supply and demand drives gas prices up?  Is he going to jump on the Democratic bandwagon of pushing more legislation which would ultimately cost us more by artificially screwing with the prices?

Not to mention, I don’t trust him on the gun issue.  He apparently wouldn’t respond to the NRA questionnaire until the end when a grade finally showed up.  He sought the support of John Kerry.  Given the fact that he’s already flipped parties to become the golden child and enjoy the attention, why should I believe he won’t do that with my rights?

In other words, I voted against Webb more than I voted for Allen.  Allen’s okay, but I’d love to have a better GOP candidate.

House: Andrew Hurst (D)

Again, voting against someone.  That someone is Tom Davis who can’t even bother to make sure his staff is sending out letters that are up to date when a voter writes in about legislation.  Considering the only thing he’s known for is raising money, he’s not pro-gun and his commercials focus on the many ways he doesn’t stand with Republicans, I really don’t feel bad about casting a vote in the Democratic column.  Besides, Davis will win by double digits and even if Hurst did take the seat (he can’t even afford to run commercials from what I’ve seen), he’d be pathetic and powerless.  Oh, and did I mention that Davis was behind that worthless baseball committee hearing?  Yeah, that was my awful Congresscritter.

Amendment: Ban gay marriage

Gay marriage is already illegal in Virginia.  Why be redundant?  Not to mention that I happen to believe that gay marriage should be legal as long as government is involved.

Ballot Questions: Go into debt for some happy emotional causes

Hell no.

I’m not voting for Andrew Hurst. Haven’t figured out who I’ll vote for – probably the Libertarian, maybe myself – but it won’t be Hurst (nor Tommy “Fence Sitter” Davis)

I’m largely stuck with the Republicans on the gun issue. Apparently someone forgot to tell the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee that they had given up on the gun control issue. Most of the Democrats running for federal office around here are vocally anti-gun. Bob Casey is pro-gun, but for state-wide offices, running on a platform of gun control is generally political suicide.

I’m not voting for Casey or Santorum though. I’m writing in my cat. Santorum is great on the gun issue, but I find his other views revolting enough to overcome it. Casey isn’t much better though.

Now Countertop, if I knew you were willing to run as a write in, I would have put your name in. I don’t want someone like Hurst in the office, but I just can’t vote for Davis since he’s bad on my issues and can’t even bother giving information to his consituents that’s less than 3 years old. That still angers me.

Maybe I’ll vote for Countertop too. Not a big fan of Tom Davis. Before I moved last year I at least had the option of voting for anybody but Jim Moran. That made it easy.

Isn’t weird that I sort of wish I still lived in his district because I miss voting against Moran?

Everything else is spot on. Love Allen after he went to bat for the Hokies. Gays are cool too, although I’d personally never marry one. Always vote against ballot referendums too unless it authorizes government subsidized firearms for bloggers named Ravenwood.

Don’t you mean “unless it authorizes government subsidized firearms for bloggers named Ravenwood, countertop and Bitter”? Be a little generous, the holidays are coming up. :)
