Spreading the Holiday Cheer

December4

revolverornament.jpgAnd what better way to do it than with a Carnival? The Carnival of Cordite #80. Somehow several people were very busy and somewhere way down the line, I ended up on the request list. Anyway, it’s December and I’m already in the holiday mood. Blame the Brady Bunch and their PR antics for my unusually early holiday cheer. So sorry if I don’t do as much gun porn as you’d like because I’m so festive. (There’s plenty of porn and gun related topics off the left side in the appropriate categories and on many of the blogroll sites.) But before you bitch about it, let’s face it, guns, ammo and gear are the perfect holiday gifts for pretty much everyone in your life, even the little ones.

Syd points out that the citizens of Ohio would like improved concealed carry laws for Christmas this year. If I can insert my own thoughts here, it can sometimes be tough to clean up a law like that. It’s not because of major political mobilization against it for the most part, but rather because it’s not a hot button, it’s doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Ohio residents, one way to build great relations with your legislators and to make improvement type legislation a priority is to reach out to them. Invite the friendly and middle of the road ones to your gun club holiday dinner. They get access to voters and you get their ear for a night. If they don’t come, invite their staff. Point being, many gun clubs do stuff at this time of year that provides a great opportunity to have your local lawmaker’s attention and remind them that you’re good people who don’t deserve to have their rights restricted.

santacookies.jpgJacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey is seeking help in getting the required training in order to have Santa bring her a Nevada concealed carry permit.

DesertRat has thoughts on see-through scope mounts and AR-15 Carry-Handle mount scope mounting. Yeah. I’m not a rifle person or a gear geek, so I don’t have anything to add. Though he does have pictures.

redbox.jpgRoninaz points out a case where a blogger could have used “the appropriate level of feminine protection.” As a woman, I can say that a self defense gun is an excellent Christmas gift. The Formerly Bitter Boy bought me my first gun as a first Christmas gift (impressive since we’d only been dating since September of that year!) and it wasn’t how much he spent (though it was too much) or even the fact that I had a new toy of my own for the range (finally!), but it meant so much to me that he actually cared about my safety. He refused to buy me the plinking gun I wanted and insisted I get something with more stopping power so I could carry it. Really, it was so sweet.

He also covers the Kathryn Johnston incident in Atlanta. For those of you not following any news in the blogosphere this month, she’s the elderly woman in Atlanta who was shot by cops in a no-knock drug raid because she dared defend herself. Now, some of you may not consider shooting at cops with a warrant defending yourself. But consider that their story keeps changing as to whether they announced themselves and the “confidential informant” they said they relied on went to the press with his story that contradicts theirs. Of course now they’ve turned on him. Anyway, there are investigations and all sorts of questions being raised about their tactics. For more, I also advise checking out Radley’s coverage. He’s been all over this case.

He also highlights his National Ammo Day purchases and easy prey – those waiting for PS3s.

Mr. Completely has the Taurus PT92 Econo Race Gun Project. And it’s a series… And then there’s the last pin shoot of the year and thoughts on cleaning out the gene pool. Some more on that pin shoot from KeeWee. Mr. Completely also suggests you check out Armes et tir passion. But for those of you in need of an English translation, there’s one available.

whitepresent.jpgVengeful Zhid presents new a new gun purchase, a gift for himself after the election. This just proves that guns are great gifts all year round!

Grits for Breakfast highlights some of the pre-files for Texas, one of which is a Katrina response bill regarding gun rights.

Random fact: According to one legislative tracking service, 3,336 pre-files for 2007 have already been filed around the country. Keep an eye out for any gun control bills left by the Grinch this holiday season.

Talk about cuteness! James Rummel gives us a peek at an oh so adorable antique gun. Sure, he talks about how small and underpowered the Apache pocket pistol is, but it’s so cute that I think any gun nut would love to have one in their stocking this season.

He also examines the guns in the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales. In fact, he does it twice. Never seen the movie. The only western I’ve ever enjoyed is The Jack Bull. I cried. So put those two movies under the tree, along with that little Apache and you’ll have one very happy loved one.

And not finished yet, he gives us more cute tiny guns. There’s more detail there than I have time to read right now because I’m quickly learning how putting a carnival together can be quite time consuming. Then he’s got thoughts on gun owners and horror movies. Still on the movie kick, he also discusses the Tremors franchise. Except I disagree with him on the most memorable character. I think Reba is the most memorable. A fiesty redhead with a gun, always a cool sight.

Think he’s done yet? Definitely not. There’s also a post created following an email discussion on a first self defense handgun purchase.

redbowblackbackground.jpgIsaac Coverstone shows off his Mighty Kimber. He talks about how good it looks in the holster, but I think it’s missing something. Maybe a big red bow and Christmas tree nearby?

Linoge gives us a very long post he describes as “a newbie’s take on the pistol he currently owns.”

Pete Drum sends us his report of the second Knoxville, TN politician to use a firearm in self defense lately.

Jackson Landers was preparing for his deer hunt here in Virginia. How did it go? I know lots of people who have had much luck. Now I just wish they’d fill their freezers and start sharing with me. :)

Joe Huffman has lots of pictures from a recent pistol match and plenty of video clips to keep you amused for quite a while.

gunnecklace.jpgAnd more from Knoxville from SayUncle. He’s using his wallet as his voice and boycotting Pilot Oil, the local mayor’s family business. For those of you not following his blog often, you might be shocked to learn that the Knoxville mayor has joined Bloomberg’s anti-gun group which hopes to export New York City style gun control around the country. He also responds to local press coverage of the politicians who used firearms in self defense. Since he may have a little kissing up to do to the wife, he needs to consider the necklace to the left. Actually, he needs to find something shinier and with diamonds, but that wouldn’t fit this carnival very well.

Les Jones has several installments of the S&W buying guide posted.

Help Jay G pick out a scary black rifle to buy in honor of the Democrats taking over last month.

The Posse believes there’s a bright side to the election and that the last thing the Dems want to do is fire up the gun rights community by pushing gun control.

bluewhitesnowflake.jpgRandom insert of something pretty to inspire Uncle in case he really is in the doghouse for the previously linked post. (This is probably why I’m not a good carnival host and I’m sure I’ll hear about how much I suck because of it.)

Dan in Madison has another great gift suggestion: an air pistol. He notes, “Shooting pellets did indeed improve my aim at the real range and I have new goals to pursue through the NRA qualifications program.”

On the note of being able to shoot anywhere, another great gunnie gift idea is the NRange Indoor Shooting System. I’ve actually used it and it’s awesome. Getting to practice with a gun you actually shoot at the range, but with almost no sound and in the comfort of your home or office.

Paratus/Rivrdog wonders when the beginning of the end will approach and has thoughts on what to do following the election.
Trainer gives an update on efforts to create a “smart gun” which will trigger even crappier conditions for New Jersey gun owners than those which already exist. I know, you didn’t think it was possible to get worse there, did you?

I think that means I can officially classify this post in the Boobs! category.

Want more? How about we end with this Guns and Camo 2006 Calendar? Who cares if it’s 2006, you wouldn’t buy it for the calendar feature anyway. If you want to pretend to be a vintage calendar collector, there’s always the Guns and Camo 2005 Calendar. But for those of you with wives to get it past, there’s the Guns and Camo 2007 Calendar.

submittedheader.jpgActually, that’s not all. See, I started with the freshest material first in case there were updates and didn’t see this art submission until the end. So sorry that it’s at the end, but it’s more for the crowd who can’t get enough gun porn. Or guns and porn. Either way, y’all are obsessed.

Damn these things are long. Thank goodness y’all didn’t submit nearly all of your stuff or I really would have gotten lost and tired and who know what kind of pictures would have popped up. Anyway, here’s wishing you the very best holiday season! Hopefully there’s lots of gunnie goodness in your stocking and under your tree.

UPDATE: A couple of late additions from the Chicago Boyz. There’s the Air Pistol Match and the .22 Pistol Match. The contests end when they decide they have been enough entries, so hurry up if you want to play along.

UPDATE II: Here’s David Hardy’s documentary trailer.

BTW, I have had no luck this deer season. Of course, I ‘ve only gotten out a couple of days, thanks to the gun banning bigots in the Christian Right who refuse to allow Virginian’s to hunt on Sunday.

Perhaps someone can spread some holiday cheer and allow me to hunt their land

Excellent jog hosting the CoC, Bitter.

I too, like Jay G, am looking at (more) scary black rifles, and specifically, as he is, the AR15 platform, and for all the same reasons.

Thanks for a job well done!
