Where the Bitchy Loyalties Lie
From the looks of it, Bitchy Mom is gearing up to be a Fred Thompson supporter. Bitchy Mom is not the most political of people. She votes, she pays general attention to politics, but pretty much like your average voter, she really tunes in closer to election day. But I see she’s signed up as a supporter of Mr. Thompson’s not yet announced run. Most definitely an unconventional campaign. Even if all it does is make the major 3 contenders for the GOP nomination nervous enough to remember they are supposed to be in favor of smaller government, the effort will have served a purpose.
But where does the Bitter household lie in these early days of the race? Well, I just made my first political donation of the season. I donated to Richardson. I don’t agree with him on several points, but in general, he represents the type of Democrat I’d like to see more of on the national stage. I don’t know if I support him enough to vote for him in a general election, that would depend on the GOP nominee. However, I would consider voting for him, something I would not do for Hillary, Obama or Edwards. Depending on what happens between now and February 12, I may vote in the Democratic primary (again) for Richardson.
Don’t worry, this blog will maintain it’s policy of keeping all candidates on the list to be mocked for stupid comments.
No obviously related posts.

Well despite his flaws, and eh has many, I would choose Newt as my first choice, with Thompson as my second.
Is Gingrich/Tancredo too much to hope for as a ticket? Probably, yeah. How about Thompson/Sensenbrenner? Or Richardson/Lieberman?
Dreaming, I know. I would, however, be entirely unsurprised to eventually hear the phrase “President Giuliani” coming from the radio.
I was a little surprised that Richardson doesn’t even want a rapid-reaction force left in Iraq. No trainers? No civil affairs types? Not even a couple of specialty counterterrorism units? Seems a tad too far to go in service of the idea of a withdrawal. But maybe without 150,000 other troops as cover it would be too dangerous to keep our people there at all…

Yesterday morning, I felt exactly as you do. However, after reading Richardson’s five or six point plan for dealing with the situation in Darfur, I have since reconsidered.
His last point in his plan for changing the situation in Darfur is for the U.S. to join the ICC (International Criminal Court). This is an organization which is dominated by transnational progressives (Read: international socialists). Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong Il, Fidel Castro and Mahmud Achmadinijad, along with the perpetrators of the Darfur genecide can do no wrong, but Donald Rumsfeld gets charged with war crimes.
And this is what Bill Richardson thinks is a good idea for Darfur? That totally turned me off of him.
I’m with Bitchy Mom on this one.
Now there’s something I don’t get to say very often!
Well, I don’t think I’ll join you. Here is my really big problem with Richardson.
I’m hoping for the Thompson/Rice ticket. I’ve already seen one Condi ‘08 bumper sticker here in Boise.
“Even if all it does is make the major 3 contenders for the GOP nomination nervous enough to remember they are supposed to be in favor of smaller government, the effort will have served a purpose.”
The problem is that they only remember they are supposed to be for smaller government while they are campaigning. When the get into office they forget again.
Not only does Richardson want every US soldier out of Iraq, but he also wants the US to join the ICC. Oh, and to engage Syria and Iran on the issues of Iraq and Darfur (where he also thinks the UN should send troops.)
His ICC position puts him in my “hell, no!” bin.
I have been a New Mexico resident most of my life and have seen plenty of Bill Richardson. My advice for folks who are inclined to like Bill is this: Don’t be taken in.
Richardson is not to be underestimated. He is as slick as Bill Clinton, having studied under the Master.
Other than Richardson’s pro-gun stand — which I’m not sure I trust — there is almost no overlap between Richardson’s agenda and that of the Center-Right.
