Secretive Research
Why would a top columnist at one of the larger dailies in the country hide research she cited in a column? It would be interesting to find out why she’s denying information about who did the research to Michelle Malkin. This irritates me so much. As someone who steps up and goes the extra mile to make sure that research is correct and facts are in order before something goes out to press, it’s very frustrating to see the MSM get a pass under the guise of “word limits.” There is no word limit to answering Michelle’s question.
No obviously related posts.

Get real…what do u expect? Liberal left-wing propaganda at its finest. “I could tell u but i wont cause i dont feel like it-dont have to-cant-am busy wahshing my hair-am busy grooming my cat-am busy shaving a giraffe”….of course u are….
I’m calling bullshit here.
One of the reasons I don’t read Michelle’s site is because she is too eager to make a big deal out of nothing. As I read it
1) Goodman wrote an article and mentioned a spreadsheet
2) Malkin wrote an email asking to see spreadsheet and/or contact researcher.
3) Goodman said I can’t release spreadsheet now, but can after a certain event occurs.
4) Malking asks again to speak with researcher.
5) Goodman says, I’m on vacation, will check with researcher when I get back as to whether they want their name associated with this on the internet.
That doesn’t strike me as a conspiracy, it strikes me as a reporter actually being a decent person. Not everyone (this coming from someone who blogs annonymously) wants all their business aired on the internet. Especially when what they are working on is still a work in progress. Goodman didn’t say no. She just said she was on vacation and would check when she got back.
Frankly, I think malkin is so full of herself as to be utterly unbearable.
Crap like this annoys me. The internet is the most democratic media in the world. Anyone can create a blog with ZERO COST. Use the computer at your local library and register on wordpress.org or blogger.com. Instant blog. Not happy about the number of blogs by women, or gays, or Hispanics, or blues, or whatever? Make one, damn it!
I read about a dozen blogs on a regular basis. Several are women only or primarily women. The Bitches here being one of my favorites.
* Disclaimer for the feminists: The word “bitch” is used herein as a term of respect, not in the “yo! bitch, get me a beer” way since saying that to Bitter would, no doubt, result in her kicking me with her stiletto heels.
O_O Wait a minute…… Yo! Bitch…..
I’m normally not a Malkin fan, countertop. However, once you go public with your research, even if it’s to a columnist, you go public with it. As a columnist, she needs to be able to back up her claims. She’s refusing to do it. If the researcher herself had told Malkin that, I’d still be iffy, but would understand. Goodman looks like she has something to hide.
DAMMIT! I really like your blog, you’re one of my favorites. Now I can’t come here anymore.
I didn’t realize I was letting down the side by reading a woman. I guess I’ll have to quit reading Nicki Fellenzer at Liberty Zone too.
This gender crap sure is limiting. Oh hey! Waaaaait a miiiiinute, I could just ignore it. Think I will.
Boy, I dodged that bullet. So I guess she can just go to Ellen kiss my….. uh, no, no, she can’t a man has to have some principles.
One more thing, if she really sees a conspiracy here that needs correcting why hasn’t she changed her name to Goodwoman?
Oh, that’s right. Excuse me.
Do you Bitter??
I thought there were still things as secret sources . . . and what if she was a university researcher who has done the work but doesn’t have authority to go to the press because its not officially finalized? The information may still be newsworthy – indeed, this would be called a scoop, it looses its value if you wait till everyone has it – but the author can’t be identified.
Or, Goodman just doesn’t know. So, because of whatever situation exists, she told Malkin I’m on vacation (ie: I write for a living, I don’t blog in my free time hence I am not working on vacation) and will get back to you when I return.
Sure, it kills Malkin’s scoop – if indeed there is one – but it seems reasonable to me, at least compared with how over the top Michelle is about it (but then, she’s over the top about everything . . . she’s vying hard for Anne Coulter’s thrown).
Blech!
A pox on all their houses.
I’m not against exclusives. I’ve worked on a few myself. However, once the research is shared with one media source and they do their story, the research then becomes fair game for review. We’re not talking political secret sources here. It’s formal research which should be available to peer review. If the author isn’t able to share it, she should have waited to share it with Goodman. She still could have given it as an exclusive when the research was complete.
