Taking Some Time
It’s been pretty obvious that since I started my current job in June, I have not had access or time to keep the site going in the same spirit as when it launched just shy of 5 years ago.
With no co-bloggers taking on any non-personal posting duties, it’s not like I can rely on backup to step up and keep adding fresh content and commentary throughout the day. Most of what I post now is old, or just random stuff. There are “younger” or bigger bloggers out there who have the time to keep up with news as it breaks. Even commentary is dated since I can’t get to it until later.
At this point, my life just has other commitments. I have homework again. My weekends are filled with travel or entertaining. I just have little energy left for these things. I feel like most of you read enough other blogs that you’ll hardly notice. Quite a bit of the time I do have is dedicated to trying to keep up as opposed to staying on top of things.
For me, it’s really going to be about cutting off a habit. I just don’t think the habit adds enough value to make it worthwhile. I think I need to spend the time that’s currently dedicated to the habit and see if I can’t be more productive with it.
I’m not saying this is the absolute end right now. Who knows, I might find that it’s like a crack addiction and I need to come back to it. More than a few bloggers have taken some time away and come back to it with renewed energy. But I won’t make you any promises.
For those of you who have been reading for ages, you may wonder what’s happened to all of the other Bitch Girls. I wish I had an answer.
- Spooky hasn’t been heard from since probably last fall. There hasn’t been any kind of fight, just life getting in the way. Her dad had a stroke a couple of years ago. His recovery, along her job struggles and boy issues have kept her away from even regular internet access, and apparently phone calls.
- Baby hasn’t been heard from in at least a couple of years. She was so much younger than the rest of us anyway that it’s not a shock. Keep in mind that we only lived together for a year. The last I heard about her was from a blast email that indicated she might actually be living a couple hours north of Sebastian. Maybe we’ll get in touch again at some point.
- First has also been MIA for years now. She left school when I graduated to go somewhere else. I heard she returned to the alma mater of the original Bitches the following year, but I’ve never heard anything since then.
- Preppy kind of went off the deep end for a while and publicly declared a split from the site shortly after I graduated. Last anyone commented, she withdrew on a personal level while at school during her last year and then took off to live with some guy she met once from the internet. People were definitely concerned, but no one ever volunteered that they knew anything about her after that and I didn’t really ask.
I guess those were pretty much the main characters. I know it’s not promising news to anyone who has been reading for a while. But that’s the way life goes sometimes.
I feel like I owe a big thanks to Aubrey for hosting the site for so many years. He adopted us off Blogspot in 2003 and hosted us at no charge until last summer when I felt like I needed to be footing my own bill.
I’m sure I’ll see you all around the blogosphere at some point. Until then, please accept this thank you for taking the time to contribute to the typically informative and always amusing conversations around here. It’s been an adventure, and certainly not one I would have ever expected to take me so many places.
Thanks for the memories,
Bitter Bitch
No obviously related posts.

I am totally going to blame Sebastian for this.
Good luck.
Awww, man.
Guest-post at Sebastian’s blog, yeah.
In the immortal words of Lando Calrissian “It’s not my fault!”
I tried to talk her out of it
Best of luck, Bitter.
You’ll be back.
And then Chewbacca angrily growls.
Thank you for mucho entertainment.
I have to differ with you, Bitter. Some of the info I get comes only from your site.
Ah well, better to give it up before it gets to you.
Thanks for your time.
Life happens. Good luck.
I’ve been a quiet reader for a long time and will certainly miss your blog. I try to never comment since I learned in elementary school it’s better for me to listen than to speak. I’m grateful that it isn’t true for you!
You’ll be back
I know it.
Enjoyed reading you and will miss your postings. Best of luck to ya.
Wow. This is a shock.
I definitely understand the need to take some time off, but I hope you will be back at some point in the future.
NOOOOO! [sob!]
Well ya done good all these years. Thanks for the update on everyone, B. I was always amazed at how much good common sense and wizdom came through from you (being such a young pup & all). Best to you if you do hang it up, and if not, see you down the road.
Have a nice life. Give me a ring if you want to have a drink sometime.
I’ve only been reading for a short period – but dang I’ll miss it. Content is nice, butpresentation is key, and you have that in spades
Hope to see you guest-blogging in the snowflakes at least.
Bitter, I just want you to know that you girls were about the first blog that i started reading in earnest (this was even before the duct tape bra). As far as I’m concerned, you are among the best in the business, and you will be missed.
Best of luck in the future, and yes, it is like crack.
Cheers!
I have been a lurker for a long time, and an occasional poster over the last year or so. Not sure how I found you, but you made it to my bloglist. I would have said ‘daily’ bloglist, but life does tend to get in the way, as you are finding out. You do what you gotta do. I appreciate what I have read to date and thank you for the effort. It has been a great read. Good luck, with whatever you do.
You can one day perhaps look forward to our combined blog “Bitches in Hell”. I will be your host Sebitchtian
I along with many others will miss you.
God Speed.
You will be missed. See ‘State of the blog address’ at Say Uncle. Good stuff. Especially that stuff added by anon@anon.com!
I’ve also only been reading for a short time, but have been well and truly impressed. Thanks for what you did; hope to see you in the future.
I still remember that night a few years back when we stayed up for the Blogathon and helped keep each other awake. Then you cut off all your hair and donated it to Locks of Love. You are awesome, Bitter. Best of luck with life. If you feel like coming back, we’ll be here, if not, all my best!
B, I’m sorry to see you go offline, but I completely understand. It’s funny how life picks up the pace as you get older. I’ve been saying for awhile now that I finally understand what the grownups meant by “it was ten years ago but it seems like just yesterday”. Best of luck, and try not to be a total stranger
Bitter,
I’m going to miss you, and sorry I never got the chance to meet you.
Good Luck with what you need to do, and if either You or You and Sebastian are in Florida drop me an email.
Sincerely,
Ed
You’ll be back sooner than you know it. It’s too addicting. You like it too much. Trust me – no one ‘cept maybe Countertop knows more about quitting and coming back than me.
Maybe I’ll see you at the NRA convention next year. Drinks are on me.
There will always be meeting possibilities. I’m not going anywhere, and Bitter can always come along.
Aww, maaan… One important component is supposed to be FUN, so if that’s not happening it’s not good. I liked that you reminded me of my past life in Arlingtron, back when I was a college-punk and went out East to DC…
Cheers!
So sorry to see you go. And just when I had gotten accustomed to reading your posts each day. I will miss them.
I linked to this post on Friday’s Second Amendment News Roundup, along with some comments that I hope you will find encouraging.
Hope you come back. At least blog some with Sebastian.
Best wishes!
But where am I going to get my bitciness fix from now?
Hooo-ray!!!
I enjoyed your blog, thanks.
Best wishes to you and yours.
Ya know Bitter, having been there (more than once) I know how you feel, but you are a Blogger, and Bloggers blog. Leave your site active, and on those occasions when you’re bursting at the seams, post here for your own satisfaction, and let us catch up.
Thanks for the “update” on the bitches. I wondered from time to time. Best to you always.
