So you think that hydropower is supported by treehuggers? Nope, now they are blaming dams for global warming. I like the Fark headline:
Yesterday: Dams provide carbon free energy. Today: Dams create global warming. Tomorrow: Every dam thing creates global warming
At least the left is finally going after Ted Kennedy for his hypocrisy on the Cape Wind farm.

Tree-huggers have hated dams for years, for killin’ fish.
They’ve been trying to remove every dam in the Northwest for probably over 20 years now.
The “progressives” have long been opposed to hydropower. If you look at the typical article on “sources of electricity,” you will see that hydro is generally not even categorized as renewable…meaning, of course, that “renewable” is a political rather than a technical or economic term.
Which is an interesting difference from the lefties of yore. Both the New Deal Democrats and the Soviet Stalinists were very proud of their hydro projects, and indeed invested them with an almost religious significance.
I think the key to the whole thing is that the tree-huggers hate American capitalist society. They will use any means necessary to try to destroy it economically and politically.
I think it goes deeper than that, Martin. The old-line Marxists hated capitalist society too, but the society they wanted to replace it with was (in their vision) an economically-developed and technologically-advanced one. Not so the current brand of leftists.
