Gays in the Military

November28

Wow. I’m so glad that the question was asked.

WTF?!?! So conservatives get to rule the world and we get to shut gays out of our lives completely according the Hunter? And why does Hunter think that conservatives can’t handle gays being around them? His statement makes conservatives look bad, like our young people think they would get gay cooties.

Mitt’s dodging his past again. He won’t answer Anderson’s question about whether or not he looks forward to a day when gays may serve openly in the military, something he said in the past.

I’m glad the man asking the question was willing to say he didn’t feel they answered the question. I think that Hunter and Huckabee did. Romney did not.

UPDATE: The question was a plant from Hillary’s campaign.  I’m with Glenn in that it doesn’t change my view of the issue or question.  It only changes my view of CNN.

Another “look at me, I’m gay” question from the gay community. No, I don’t want to hear about your lifestyle. I’m pretty supportive of the current policy.

That brings up an interesting question, actually.

The “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy is one set by Congress (10 USC 654).

There’s been a Democrat majority in Congress for over a year now.

If this is a Republican/conservative issue, it seems odd that the Democrats haven’t made a bill to redress the issue; they’re not conservatives, after all.

(Sure, the President might veto it, but not pushing the bill because of that makes me think that they think the people as a whole would support the President’s side more than theirs… which would make it not a “conservative” issue, since conservatives/Republicans aren’t a majority of the population any more than progressives/Democrats are.)

That they have not produced such a bill suggests very strongly (as I’ve always believed) that the issue is not a party-line or strictly ideological one.

As well as the fact that the general needs to court-martialed.

We should just bar hedonists (of which most activity could violate the military’s conduct rules).

Actually, my only concern about gays in the military is the logistics issue. Am I correct that, in general, women & men bunk separately now? If so, would you bunk gay men with women/gay women with men, would you have to have a third area for both, a FOURTH, etc? Beyond that, I don’t really see how being gay makes you unsuitable to be in the military. It doesn’t stop you from pointing & shooting, using the tech, taking/giving orders, etc. It’s all about your personal life, which, frankly, is irrelevent to your job, military or not.
