GOP Candidate Actively Turns Against Guns

November2

Perhaps it’s time for the Virgina GOP to just hand the state’s 34th Senate district to the Democrats. I’m starting to wonder if her commercials running throughout all of the DC market making an attack on gun rights could do more to harm the party than good she might bring. I find it interesting that she won’t post her commercials online.  Perhaps the two could be related.

But now she’s bringing in the big anti-gunners to endorse her:

In a rare move, Mayor Bloomberg will make an endorsement today in an out-of-state, local election, throwing his support behind a moderate Republican clinging to her state Senate seat in Northern Virginia. At a joint appearance near the Dulles International Airport, Mr. Bloomberg will endorse Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, a state senator from Fairfax whose husband is Rep. Tom Davis, the former chairman of the House Government Reform Committee.

The Devolites Davis campaign announced the endorsement yesterday afternoon.

The key issue is guns, where Ms. Devolites Davis has broken with her party to support increased background checks for gun owners, and the National Rifle Association has even endorsed her Democratic opponent, J. Chapman Petersen. …

Ms. Devolites Davis’s campaign said she has supported efforts to keep criminals from buying weapons at gun shows and has backed allowing local governments to ban firearms on school property. Most importantly for Mr. Bloomberg, however, would be her vote against a bill in the Virginia legislature outlawing the sting operations that New York City conducted against gun shops that engaged in illegal straw purchases. …

Mr. Davis and the mayor have known each other for a long time and said to hold similar views on many issues.

I’m curious about how she and whoever is helping her from the party decided that actively attacking the rights of gun owners was the best route.  Usually anti-gun Republicans try to lay low, but she’s the one who started the attack on our rights.

She gets almost half of her funding from her husband, U.S Congressman Tom Davis. His PAC has given her over $400,000 to her campaign.

Yeah, their political marriage is quite an interesting thing, no doubt. Maybe one day we’ll get Tom Davis out of the party, too.

Guess all of those who live in her voting area need to start writing in candidates, or go libertarian.

Remember, she sponsored a horrible anti-gun bill last year (that got stomped on severely; even the press conference promoting its introduction was a bust due to our pro-rights activists). I get the feeling she’s not just taking this anti-gun position to curry favor with Democrats; I think she’s really anti-gun.

    Devolites-Davis got creamed!

Lots of folks in her district own guns. Between her ads and pro-gun rights organizations endorsing Chap Petersen she lost at least 2500 gunowners. Move 2500 gunowners to vote Dem = 5000 vote margin of victory!
