Ron Paul on Abortion
I really hated Paul’s answer. Really, really hated it. How does punishing doctors play? I can’t imagine well. He really needed to go after the Court comment.
I like Rudy’s answer the best. He goes to the legal argument. He also is against criminalization – good. And his proposals should satisfy some of the religious right.
Notice that Mitt didn’t say a word about Rudy’s comments on the poorly decided Roe v. Wade. He agreed with Fred on problems with Roe. He was smart to try and distance himself from the pro-choice candidate.
UPDATE: CNN just keeps looking worse. This chick is a publicly declared Edwards supporter.
No obviously related posts.

Rudy and Ron Paul said the same thing about Abortion, except Dr. Paul got pressed to say who would be punished… he has said repeatedly that he wants to give the issue to the states to determine the best way to deal with it.
A woman who murders her child through abortion as well as the abortionist must be punished with execution after a fair and speedy trial. That is the only just response to the crime of murder.
Ron Paul and the rest of the candidates don’t have the integrity or the guts to state the plain and simple truth that anyone convicted of murder must be executed upon conviction.
Also, its extremely VILE and inherently EVIL for a person to claim that “the states should decide” whether or not to legalize a crime – especially the crime of murdering innocent children.
Check out an analysis of Ron Paul’s response on abortion in a YouTube interview he gave a few months back here

Quinn, you personal feelings on this topic don’t relate to the political realities or how our government is supposed to handle this issue per the Constitution of the United States. Murder is currently a state crime except for very specific cases such as crimes involving terrorism, etc.
Dr Paul is on record stating he personally is pro life but the Constitution doesn’t give the federal government the power to regulate it even if it were legal.
Your personal position and characterization of people believing in States rights as “vile” and “evil” conflict with the views of a lot of other people. You should consider living in a state that doesn’t support the procedure with other like minded folks.
If you feel yourself a Crusader, your Crusade shouldn’t stop at the US border but you should champion this cause on a global level, esp China which has government policies advocating abortion.
Quinn, the last time I looked, the supreme law of the land is still The Constitution of the United Sates of America, not the Holy Bible. Christians should vote as citizens and not as Christians. Those links you provided are less than reliable and you completely misunderstand where Congressman Paul is coming from. Here’s my favorite quote from that website: “Libertarians, as godless policy makers, are sexually immoral and tolerate murder.” Well here’s my quote for the Christian Conservatives: Christian Conservatives have allegiance to only one thing, and that is their religion. For Christian Conservatives, subverting the Supreme Law of the Land (The U.S. Constitution) is the order of the day, and their intents are nothing short of sedition and TREASON. Get out of the Republican party. You are not after a republic. You want a theocracy and that is unconstitutional, and most definitely against the true values our nation was founded on.
You gotta be freakin kidding me!!
Look at what you just said.
“Your personal position and characterization of people believing in States rights as “vile” and “evil” conflict with the views of a lot of other people.”
SO WHAT!?!?!?!?
Think about this for 10 seconds if you can manage it.
If I lived in Nazi Germany and I opposed killing innocent Jews which the legal system in Germany was doing at the time your statement would still be true – that what I believe “conflicts with the views of a lot of other people.”
BUT SO WHAT!!?? I would still be doing the ABSOLUTE RIGHT THING in opposing the killing of innocent Jews even though MOST Germans (especially those who voted Hitler into power) were fine with innocent Jews being killed.
So, you’re not making a rational argument unless you truly believe the Chinese motto “The voice of the people is the voice of God”. Is that what you actually believe?
The voice of God has explictly declared “You shall not murder” and that anyone convicted of murder must be executed to bring about justice and to keep from defiling the land. If you think its a radical thing to say that letting capital criminals live defiles the land then just check out yesterday’s newspaper or today’s news to see what has come from convicted rapists/kidnappers/murderers being given unjust sentences.

I am and have been doing that for a long time. My home church even has two mothers who came from China and we are working together to help save as many babies from being slaughtered as possible as well as in our own area and around the nation.
American Right To Life just launched. Get the info on our plans and strategy.

I could care less what the constitution or the declaration of independence say. If they contradict the inalienable rights that God has endowed all men with everywhere, then its wrong and God is right. One of these obvious rights is the RIGHT TO LIFE. And its a right that is not given by any local, state or federal government and also not given by any parent. Only those who are guilty of capital crimes and have been convicted in a court of law are to be deprived of their life.
Some are trying to claim in Massachussets that parents don’t have the right to spank their children to discipline them, while they say its fine to violently slaughter those same children prior to delivery (and perhaps just after delivery in some cases). That’s how messed up the government is.
I want a FEDERAL abortion ban and an amendment to the US Constitution that recognizes the humanity of the preborn from conception on. Anything less is not acceptable and horrificly evil.

You’re not too bright when it comes to history are you? Are you aware that the original states were often referred to as “Biblical Commenwealths”?
Check out these images of the general laws and liberties of the Massachusets colony. Notice the BIBLE REFERENCES that appear next to each law.

That is the heritage of American law – God’s inspired word.
Only Christians are truly qualified, morally and ethically, to govern. Atheists, agnostics, and sexual deviants (i.e. Liberarians & homosexuals) need not apply.
And Enyart is completely right when he says “Libertarians, as godless policy makers, are sexually immoral and tolerate murder.”
Libertarians endorse the legalization of prostitution because many Libertarian guys can’t find a woman who will marry them, so they want an easy way around that obstacle where they can pay a girl to have sex with them. That is sexually immoral.
Libertarians claim that individual states should decide whether or not its OK to violently murder the most defenseless and innocent persons imaginable. That is nothing less than tolerating murder.
I will happily “subvert the Supreme Law of the Land (The U.S. Constitution)” if that means bringing an end to the slaughter of 1 million + babies each year in the USA. God’s command You Shall Not Murder is a much higher authority than ANY nation’s constitution.
If you lived in Nazi Germany, Gabriel, you would be out there supporting Hitler and defending the constitution of the Weimar Republic.
Even if you think abortion is murder, which I do not, the federal government has no constitutional authority to criminalize murder under the constitution except in the armed forces or on the high seas. Murder is a state offense. If you believe the federal government should criminalize murder, and usurp the power of the states, you don’t have too much respect for the principles of federalism outlined in our constitution. Abortion should be a matter for the states to decide.
I sometimes wonder about the right of the unborn child to come into a world birthed of a mother who took care of her health, and actually WANTS to have a child. If I were an unborn child, and had the choice of whether to opt out and go back to my creator, or to be born into a home where I would be emotionally, physically and sexually abused, I would opt out.
Why isn’t there any focus on preventing unwanted pregnancies?
I think someone just vomited their brain out onto the internet… and the results don’t look good.
Quinn, Thank you for proving me right. The Hitler argument is completely irrelevant here. I would never defend a constitution which would trample individual rights. You said that I would support Hitler and the constitution of the Weimar republic. How’s that possible? Hitler didn’t respect his own constitution, that’s how he came to power! I am well aware of Biblical Commonwealths, but let’s review real history: the so called Judeo-Christian values instilled during that period involved persecution as well as true state sanctioned murder in the form of witch hunts. The people who put this country together (as in George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin etc.) were not Jesus freaks, they were “Deists”. Look it up and you will see that the “Creator” they speak of in the Constitution and the “God” as in “In God We Trust” are not the God of Abraham but another god altogether. And best of all, one of their greatest contributions was to make the distinct separation of church and state and it was done as a result of all that happened during the time of “Biblical Commonwealths”. So yes. You are a traitor for disregarding the true supreme law of the land, and you and your ilk should assimilate and learn to get along with others who may not share your beliefs (in other words behave like a Christian) or GET OUT of the Republican party. You have all hijacked my political party and it’s time for you to form your own party and stop corrupting ours!
Oh my. Someone left the door to the asylum open.
I’m not sure what else Ron Paul could have done with the question he was asked other than evade it, which is not his way (thankfully). If abortion did become illegal, how would you punish the offenders? I think that’s the best possible answer: punish the one performing the abortion. He couldn’t have said “I wouldn’t punish anyone” because that would be absurd. Not punish a lawbreaker?
Regardless, Ron Paul wants the matter to go to the states where it constitutionally belongs, and I’d be shocked if it became illegal in this country to get an abortion. It’s so unlikely to happen that the inclusion of this question in the debate was nearly pointless and was just baiting the candidates, probably by CNN.
Umm…
Should murder be a federal crime? Rape? Kidnapping? Adultery?
Federal crimes?
Do we need federal Constitutional amendments to make all crimes federal crimes?
If you say “Yes,” you are a top-down monarchist.
If you say “No,” you are a classical, Christian republican (as in english Republicanism, à la Cromwell).
Murder is a state offense.
So abortion should be a state offense.
Because abortion is murder.
Pretty simple.
I remain unconvinced.
It may be ethically neutral.
“Only Christians are truly qualified, morally and ethically, to govern. Atheists, agnostics, and sexual deviants (i.e. Liberarians & homosexuals) need not apply.”
How do rational American fiscal conservatives keep from slitting their wrists at having to be in bed with the religious right?
Wow.
What is a “Liberarian”? Lol.
People on this site amaze me.
Murder, rape, adultery, kidnapping, and theft are not federal crimes.
But you are saying they should be.
Because that’s what you want–a federal ban on abortion.
Murder has never been a federal crime before (unless it takes place in several states). Why should it be now?
How do rational American fiscal conservatives keep from slitting their wrists at having to be in bed with the religious right?
It’s hard, believe me. Most of them aren’t this bad, fortunately.
People on this site amaze me.
Dude, I don’t know where these people came from. I really don’t. I think someone opened up a loony bin somewhere.
