Misc. Notes on Life & Politics
- Hi. Just thought I would pop in.
- In the headlines: A Democrat Endorses the Democratic Nominee. And this is news, why?
- We’re doomed in the US! Right? You’d never know by watching the evening news.
- I’ve updated the Blog Bash site.
- I’m still trying to work out the kinks. For example, why the latest post doesn’t show up in the spot for it on the front page is beyond me right now. Or the links that don’t look any different than the text. The theme did not come with the cleanest code in the world, but I like the look of it for Phoenix. If you feel like advertising for next year, here’s the new web logo. I don’t actually expect anyone to do it right now, but I figured I’d let you know.
- If you have ideas/requests for next year, let me know. I can’t make you promises, but maybe we can make something happen.
- If you’re one of the people bitching and moaning that you missed out on the perks of the Blog Bash and you didn’t even bother coming or engaging with the community, you can solve that problem for next year.
- What’s wrong with education? This.
- In other news, a dictator is refusing to step aside. Shocking. Really.
- I’ve discussed anti-hunting groups and how they would jump on board with gun bans given the opportunity. Now take a looksie if you didn’t believe me.
- Speaking of hunting, one way shooters can connect with that part of the community is through Pittman-Robertson dollars. We pay for their conservation efforts. I thought of this because its one argument I don’t think we use nearly enough. Next time a legislator wants to ban some guns, restrict purchases, or do something to hike the cost of ammo, point out how much your state will lose in wildlife conservation funding. Accuse them of wanting to starve Bambi. Tell them how hurt you are that they want to cut vital funding for cute, fuzzy animals in your state. They want to murder Thumper! Hey, for a fencesitter, the wallet and conservation arguments could work. Telling a state lawmaker that they would have to come up with a way to fund upwards of $14.3 million each year for programs that are currently funded by hunters and shooters, they may be less inclined to want to restrict sales if they aren’t really convinced on the “public safety” arguments from the anti-gunners.
- “Politics is a lot like bad beer…”
- A post I saved a while ago reminded me of my newt. I named him Sir Isaac. He killed himself.
- The Seven Deadly Sins, as represented in wine glasses.
- A saint is living in Los Angeles.
- Elian loves being a Communist. Russ Roberts actually has a novel coming out that was inspired by Elian’s situation.

First, I didn’t commit to the NRA convention because I’d applied to blog the GOP convention and couldn’t afford both. Then the NRA convention came and went while I was still waiting for confirmation from the GOP — and it was during finals week. Yesterday, I finally got confirmation, but of course all of the rooms are booked, and I’m left wondering if the GOP has booked rooms for bloggers as they have delegates and the press.
I should have just gone to Louisville and been done with it. I could have seen kin, dropped in on some of my favorite places, and it wouldn’t have cost $3000 to fly there (yep, you read that right).
Ouch! I do have to say, Louisville was very reasonably priced.
BTW – When I say bitching and moaning, I mean people who literally are getting angry when told that the Para contest is only open to bloggers who attended the bash. Several have publicly bitched about it, been corrected, and refuse to update their comments. One even got obnoxious about how dare people email him with the facts.
