Shut up about Barack’s Gun Banning History…or We’ll Break Out Chicago-Style Politics

September25

Barack Obama is used to having his way. Interestingly, he is not a fan of people pointing out when he’s lying about things like civil rights, especially that pesky Second Amendment.

That’s why Obama has a team of hired goons – some call them lawyers – to threaten legal action against those who air his record.

The Obama campaign sent cease and desist letters to news outlets in Pennsylvania and Ohio, denouncing the ads and demanding their removal from the airwaves. All stations where NRA-PVF has purchased or plans to purchase ads have been provided with documented evidence of Sen. Obama’s anti-gun record.

The only problem is that the ads are based on a real, proven record. If anyone hears of a local outlet turning NRA down, call and complain about how upset you are that they would be so biased.

Obama – Anti-First & Second Amendments

UPDATE: The letter from Obama’s lawyer.

Also, note the comment from the apparent Obama supporter:

shut down the stations carrying the ads

Yet they can provide no evidence that anything in the ad is false.

UPDATE II: Xrlq has an excellent response to the letter from Obama’s attorney.

Great idea, but only if the McCain campaign is the one to deliver the threats. After all, non-candidates “do not have a ‘right to command the use of broadcast facilities,’” only federal candidates do. I’m not kidding; that argument is actually in the letter.

    What Xrig wrote.

Doesn’t matter whether the ads are true — getting bogged down in the “You’re lying!”–”No, you are!!” fight is beside the point.

    This is pure, thuggish censorship.

Threatening to shut down the television station if they air these ads? Are you kidding me??

Can’t wait to hear the 1st-amendment absolutists in the MSM try to defend this position.

    Yeah, right.

We’ve got all the guns. Just try it.

(See? The Second Amendment is an important part of a Complete Constitutional program, giving us the power to enforce the rights.)

  20. On September 26th, 2008 at 1:11 am iconoclast Says:

the real trouble is the chilling effect from “lawfare” like this. Will they actually sue more than one station? Probably not. How many stations will pull the ad because they don’t want to get in a legal fight with lawyers?

    That is the real goal.

The only way to win at this is to somehow figure out how to escalate the battle. Maybe Bar sanctions can be requested against these lawyers for filing or threatening frivolous lawsuits. In other words, start lawfare against the Obama campaign and everyone associated with it.

How did you get the letter? If the Obama camp actually sent that letter, it’s a big deal. Did someone email it to you in PDF format? Did you find a link to it somewhere else? Please explain. That’s why blogs are good, it allows the reader to get to the bottom of a story. If you just post the pdf of the letter without explaining how you came by it, it’s not good blogging and the credibility of the post can be called in to question. I believe the letter came from Obama’s camp, based on their other behavior. But you should make this clear.

  39. On September 28th, 2008 at 10:16 pm Bitter Says:

Jesus, stop your panic. It came from a station letting NRA know what they were facing by running the ads. The original material is all over the NRA website.

everyone wonders how the germans had such a leader… well they got him the same way we are getting the post turtle obama. he was put up by others, he was a mass movement, others funded him, and out of no where, captured the vote and took the state on a wild ride….

of course the left today is exactly the same as the left then, both will put a despot in place claiming that he will bring utopia.
