What We’re Facing Among Our Own
I know folks have already linked the WaPo story about gun sales on the rise. However, there’s one angle here that I haven’t seen anyone else jump on yet, and this is what Sebastian and I are working so hard to overcome.
More than three dozen interviews with gun dealers and buyers in Virginia and Maryland and with experts nationwide indicated that the increase in gun sales appears to be driven predominantly by concerns about the presidential election and the economy.
Gun buyers were more likely to say they were responding to the political situation than to the economy, and all but three people said they feared that Obama would restrict gun rights. Two who indicated that they would support Obama anyway said their concerns about the economy and health care outweighed those about gun rights.
That’s right. Some gun owners they talked to who are aware enough about the situation to know that they need to stock up now before Obama could make it harder to buy guns, and they are voting for him anyway because they want to mooch off of someone else and not have to pay for their own healthcare.
Even when you think your shooting buddy knows what we’re facing, you need to make sure he’s still voting McCain. You might be shocked to find out that he’ll gladly sell the rights of his children and grandchildren down the river in exchange for a little dose of socialism. But because he can go buy the guns right now, he doesn’t care. That’s what we’re fighting against.
You know, at one gun show, none of the dealers would sell to the known Obama supporters. They told them to get used to what life would be for them under Obama. No last minute sales to cushion themselves while they send other gun owners up the river.
No obviously related posts.

bitter,
could you please let us know the names of those dealers? people should shop til they drop at these stores, as the owners are sacrificing their own well being for the greater good. they are actually quite heroic in this regard. of course, I would not want an obama maniac to do them any harm, so I understand if you’d rather keep them anonymous these days. still, they deserve our money more than others.
I didn’t take a list of names of all of the dealers in the room. It was a gun show.
I would think that one would ave to have a serious disconnect to wear an obama button and walk into a gun show.
Bitter,
I ended up in a chain of emails yesterday between a group of folks that coach Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) teams in Virginia. One of the coaches had forwarded to his distribution list the ISRA “Letter to Sportsmen”. One of the recipients shot back that “many of these false claims are disputed in this well-researched unbiased article” and then provided the link to the “factcheck.org” piece as proof that ISRA is not telling the truth. In response, I forwarded the links to the well researched rebutals of factcheck.org that NRO and Dave Kopel posted. How can gun owners be so blind?
Ugh. It’s so frustrating. How do these people not get it?
They watch network news, which is inundated with Obama propaganda. Heck, after a week of “Palin sucks”, I found myself questioning why she was qualified – sort of a mega-scale Solomon Asch experiment. If a million people say the sky is green, democrats are good for us, and socialism killed 60 million people “but this time it’ll work”, you start to believe it.

That’s the same way the economy is viewed as bad. Dead tree reporters are losing their job, but they set the lens through which so many view the world. It’s leftist, flawed, corrupt, and filled with hatred for the non-far-left (as evidenced by Hillary), but it’s so often repeated.

It’s also the same way that they can vote for a candidate whose political career as a state senator started in the living room of a man who killed police and planned to kill troops and their girlfriends & wives at Fort Dix.
Willful ignorance, overwhelming propaganda, and bullsh*t.
If only Ron Paul and Colin Powell was the ticket…
In that case, gun owners definitely wouldn’t turn out to vote.
