Fall Cravings
OMG, I cannot get enough of pumpkin pictures and recipes. I really cannot fully explain how these recipes are making my droll all over the place. And you know what’s bizarre? I’ve never been a fan of traditional fall foods until the last few years.
I did not really like pumpkin outside of pumpkin pie, and I was not even willing to try butternut squash because it did nothing for me. Really, it just disgusted me.
Things started to change at Christmas dinner in 2003. For longtime readers, they might very well remember that year my mother and I blew everyone else off and spent the holiday in New York. My gift to mom was the holiday dinner at Tavern on the Green. For some reason, the butternut squash ravioli sounded delicious. I have to admit, it was excellent. But I didn’t really venture back into the world of “fall foods” for a while.
Then last fall, Sebastian made Alton Brown’s Squash Soup. Oh, that is one divine dish. We will be making again soon. We both got the craving looking at the gourd decor at the local grocery store.
But now I’m getting cravings from completely unexpected recipes like the last one I posted – Pumpkin & Goat Cheese Lasagna – to this surprising little sweet snack, Roasted Pumpkin Slices. And that Squash Soup? I’m not really just craving it, I’m absolutely dying to make it.
So has anyone else gone from not being a big fan of some foods to absolutely going nuts over them? I really can’t explain my extreme conversion, but man, the cravings are overwhelmingly.
