Bringing Your Own Spices
Baking Bites is highlighting a “Foodie Survival Kit” that is an easy-to-transport spice rack of sorts. My first reaction was that I can’t imagine needing something like this.
Oops, except I stepped it up at Thanksgiving. I didn’t just take spices my mom doesn’t keep down there, but I actually overnighted her spices before she had to make the brine.
I justified it this way:
- She would never use the spices again – unless she roasted another turkey. That would be unlikely in the next year or so.
- Finding some of the spices in their particular form would be hard to do in Roanoke. Why make her go through extra work when she was already making dinner?
- The cost of overnighting them was still less than the cost of two of the spices. Those little canisters are expensive, so even with higher shipping rates, we still saved money.
But even with all of that, I still don’t think I’d actually carry around a mini spice rack in my purse.
