The End of a Tradition?

December14

I always have green bean casserole during any holiday meal. When I make it, I use fresh green beans and add a helluva lot of pepper to it. I also don’t bother much with the fried onions on the top because I like mine mixed in a bit more.

I love it, and I loved how much we had leftover from my mom’s Thanksgiving dinner.

But for Christmas, I’m just not in the mood.

I still want green beans on my table, but this time I’m going to try a super simple recipe that’s really just some steamed green beans with a healthy topping of caramelized onion slivers. Simple, surely delicious, and a “more adult” dish, I suppose.

Has anyone else suddenly no longer been in the mood for holiday traditions?

Yep. The old school from the farm could eat a 2000 calorie lunch at Christmas because they would go out and tend livestock in the afternoon and burn that food before it was even digested.

Can’t do that now, and don’t like to feel bloated. We smoked a turkey breast this year for TG and make sandwiches.

My grandmother used to make a dish with green beans, garlic, and fresh mint in vinegar and olive oil.

    Quite good.

We made standing rib roast for Thanksgiving this year…just couldn’t do turkey.

I’m working on a recipe for salt crusted beef tenderloin for Christmas…that will also be a first.
