One of my most cherished scuba diving memories is a 10-day sailing trip I made with six friends to the Bahamas. Four scuba divers, and two non-divers, rented a 43-foot Benateau sailing yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. And we cruised to a touring, fishing, and scuba diving adventure.

That trip was in September of 1995, and the boat’s name was “The Spice of Life.”

The six of us met at the marina by late afternoon, slept aboard the Spice of Life, and cast off just after breakfast the next day once we were done using the HSI professional flat iron on board. We motored down the Inner Coastal Waterway to open ocean, and set the sails as soon as we got free of the coast.

Cruising under sail all day we reached the north end of Grand Bahamas Island just after dark, and anchored for the night.

Early the next morning we checked in with Bahamian Customs, and went searching for a reef.

We chose Indian Cay for our first dive, and the start of a grand adventure that included 15 dives over nine days.

The coolest water we experienced during the trip was 81-degrees. The visibility was 40-feet during one dive to over 100-feet for most dives.

These visibility conditions were true with the exception of one dive location. The water breaking across the rocks stirred the sand with each incoming wave. (This is a shallow dive destination.) This created a surging condition of clouding and clearing of the water from near zero to an ability to see for what seemed forever.

After a day of diving the north end of Grand Bahamas Island we sailed to Port Lucaya where we spent two days diving the area. We docked at the marina two nights at Port Lucaya, and did some sightseeing each evening.

Leaving Port Lucaya we sailed to Isaac’s Island where we anchored for the night. After a couple hours of cruising around the waters off Isaac’s the next morning (searching for a sunken wreck we never found) we set sail toward Bimini.

One special experience in particular happened about four miles out of Bimini. We noticed a Pod of Dolphin bow surfing our boat.

Deciding to stop and swim with the Dolphin for a while we put on our masks, snorkels, and fins, grabbed our dive cameras, and jumped in.

I counted 10 Dolphin in the pod. They swam around us, checking us out and posing for pictures, until we climbed back aboard the boat to continue our journey.

Bimini was perhaps my favorite on land visit of the trip, probably because we got to ride a Monster Moto MM-B80 around all day. The island is quiet and peaceful, and so small that we walked the whole length in a couple hours, including sightseeing and window-shopping in town.

We spent the next the next five days fishing and diving around the Bimini area.

One evening we barbequed our catch for dinner to make a nice break from the food items we carried with us from the states.

Of the scuba diving trips I’ve made, this adventure to the Bahamas aboard Spice of Life heads my list of stories. It’s one I tell my grandchildren when I talk about the experiences I had in my life.

How many times you have heard that cats are like a family and they treat each other with love. Now when you hear this, you introduce a new cat in the house and you get goosebumps when the old cats don’t welcome the new cat and start fighting with him. The problem is that your approach is wrong. Introducing a new cat to other cats requires time and patience. If you want to know about how to introduce a new cat to other cats, then read this article.

Steps To Introduce a New Cat to other Cats:

The following steps will guide you about how to introduce a new cat to other cats:

First of all, you need to set up a safe room for the new cat. This will give him time to get to know the surrounding environment. It’s difficult to introduce a new cat to the surrounding cats, so first of all, give space to the cat by building a sanctuary room for him. The sanctuary room can be any separated room with food, litter box, toys and water. If the new cat is timid, then keep the cat carrier in the room so that the cat’s own scent provides him comfort. With too much chaos, you may need to read up on how to get rid of cat urine smell.

When it’s meal time for the cats, you can take this opportunity to familiarize the new cat with other cats. You need to get the cats to like each other. You can’t just keep them away and then suddenly expect them to form a bond. You should feed the cats with bowls on both sides of the sanctuary door. Keep the distance up to 6 feet in the start. Then slowly reduce the distance until the two bowls are exactly on the opposite sides of the door. This will make the cats familiar with each other scents.

Now introduce the cat to the rest of the house and confine the other cats to another room. This will help the cat to familiarize itself with the scent of other cats without coming in direct contact with them. Why is my cat peeing everywhere? Often it’s over a territorial dispute. You can also interchange the sleeping places of the cats at night.

The next step is to open the door of the separated room slightly so that the new cat sees the other cats. But make sure that there is a safe distance between the two, so that none of them feels threatened. You can also offer tiny amounts of foods to the cats so that the cats see each other while eating.

Now open the door fully and let the cats interact with each other. Monitor the new cats’ first reaction. Some cats will show aggressive behavior and some will show fearful behavior. If these behaviors are intense, separate the cats and start from the first step. If a fight breaks between the two cats, throw a towel and make a loud noise to separate the cats. Hopefully you don’t have a problem with cat peeing on bed.

Keep on trying to make the encounters between the cats fruitful. If one cat seems freezing or staring at other cats, introduce some toys nearby to the cat to distract his mind. This will also teach the cat that good things can happen when two cats mingle with each other.

Most people overlook these steps but you shouldn’t do that. Follow these steps to welcome a new family member in the house.

Cat is a stunning and lovely animal. It gives you the feeling of companionship. But having a cat means more than simple companionship. You need to take good care of the cat too. If you don’t take good care of the cat, he will eventually distance itself from you. So it’s for the cat and your own good. Why do cats spray? Sometimes because they’re mad and not properly taken care of. So the following are some tips you need to follow to take care of your cat:

Brush Your Cat Everyday:

When you brush your cat daily, you get rid of the hairballs which can get into the digestive tract of cats and cause problems. Most cats spend much time in grooming themselves, so most pet owners don’t realize that brushing the cat is quite beneficial. But the problem is that some cats are reluctant to get brushed every day. The best way to make a cat cooperate is to link the brushing event with other happy events. For example, you can brush your cat every day before meal. In this way, he will be able to associate it with something delicious.

Keep Your Cat Indoors:

You should keep the cat indoors. Whenever you take him out on a walk, put a leash on him. This is the best thing for your cat and the community. You should also use a cat carrier whenever you carry the car. You should also make sure that all the windows in your room are securely locked, so that the cat can’t get outdoors. This might be irritating to the cat at first but he will be back to normal. Do female cats spray? Yes they can if they’re around other cats.

Take Your Cat To Vet Annually:

Taking your cat to a vet on annual basis will help him get rid of medical problems before they become severe. You can talk to the vet about any concerns you have about the cat. Make sure that you mention any slight change of behavior in the cat. If your cat is older, then you should take it two times every year to the vet.

Spay Your Cat:

Spaying your cat is a good way to keep your cat healthy and it will also decrease the amount of cats euthanized every year. If you can’t afford the operation for your cat, choose some low cost options.

Don’t Feed The Cat Too Much Dry Food:

Cats aren’t vegetarians. They rely on meat for their diet and the major part of their diet should always include meat. Dry foods can be dangerous for cats because they contain a large number of carbohydrates. Cats become prone to type 2 diabetes after eating too much dry food. Most people make the mistake that if they have both cats and dogs, they treat both of them the same. But you should treat both of them differently.

Set Up Litterbox For Your Cat:

You should set up a litter box for your cat and make sure that it is cleaned every day because cats prefer a clean bathroom. Do male cats spray? If there aren’t enough litter boxes they may. A cat will be attracted to a clean litter box but he will avoid a dirty litter box. You should also make sure that you always have one litter box more than the number of cats to be on the safe side.

These tips are quite helpful for taking care of your cat. So you should follow these tips to make the cat an active member of your household.

If you have a cat, you know that he loves you dearly by showing different gestures like waiting for you at the door, following you from room to room and helping you in household chores. But you need to keep the cat love you all the time and don’t let him go rogue. So if you have a cat which you love and he doesn’t love you back – especially if you don’t know why do cats spray, you should read this article.

Get the Basics Down:

The first step to get a car to love you is to let him recognize positive intentions by giving him food regularly and cleaning the litter box. When your cat is happier, you will be happier and this will strengthen your relationship – and you won’t have to worry about how to clean cat urine.

You also need to spend some extra time with your cat, so that he sees you not only as his owner but also as a friend and guardian. If the cat doesn’t come to hi to you every morning, just walk to him and be affectionate and loving. Here are some other ways to get a cat to love you:

Reward with Treats – If your cat doesn’t come near you, just put a treat in your hand and call the cat’s name. This will show him that you trust him and enjoy his company. However, you should be careful not to feed the cat with too many treats because they contain sugar content in them and can be harmful for the cat.

Show the Cat Love – It isn’t hard to get a cat’s love. But you need to do a few things to deserve it. First of all, you need to make a warm and comfortable sleeping place for the cat. A relaxing bed and comfortable cushions are a must. You need to give high quality diet to the cat and take him to the vet regularly; this will show him that you truly love him and he will love you back.

Interact at the Right Time – Cats are just like humans in the sense that at times, they need some space. You should allow him to clean in peace and sleep in peace because this will strengthen your bond with him. You should avoid to play with the cat when he is washing, eating or sleeping. It might scare the cat.

Snuggle – Cats love to snuggle. When they are on your lap next to you, they just love to purr. So when a cat is trying to snuggle, you need to snuggle him back by scratching behind his ear. Not only will the cat like you more this way but you will also be more relaxed and less likely to give you a reason to think about how to get cat pee out of carpet.

Never Punish Your Cat – Punishing a cat physically is of no use since he can’t make an association between his behavior and your punishment – even if you have a cat peeing on bed. Instead, if you see some negative behavior from the cat, just leave him in a room and stop interacting with him for some time. This will teach him a lesson.

What about Kittens?

If you have kittens, start by handling them well and playing with them as much as possible. Since they are with you all the time, they will be more social as adult cats.

Getting a cat to love you isn’t that difficult as you might think. All you have to show is that you really care for the cat and he will love you back.

If there is one thing I’ve learned about New Yorkers, it’s that they want to get the hell out of New York. Maybe not forever, but with sunny beaches just a couple of hours away in New Jersey and the Hamptons, who among us can resist the urge to pack up and roll out to the suburbs for a weekend or two? Not I of course!

Going Down

People often say that there’s nothing better than having a beach house, except for having a friend with one. In my case, it’s my uncle who resides on Long Beach Island in New Jersey who provided me with a much needed place to crash for the weekend. So I headed up to the bus station and grabbed a ticket. The bus ride is $31 round trip and takes about 1.5 hours each way, but to go the distance you really need a car. Fortunately I got picked up from the bus station by my uncle and an hour later we were on the Island!

Having Fun on the Island

There are lots of ways to have fun on LBI, but the most obvious one is right in the name, the beach. The island is approximately 18 miles long, and almost every inch of the sea side is covered in sandy beaches. Lifeguards supervise until 5pm and make you wear a beach badge, but after that, it’s all open sand and surf. So go ahead and play paddle ball, take a walk, or a little dip by moonlight if that’s your fancy.

There’s still more on the bay side, with sailing, motor-boating, water-skiing and jet-skiing available for rentals as short as an hour or as long as a full day if you’d like. I wouldn’t recommend bay side swimming however, as the beaches on this side of the island are sometimes slimy with silt and seaweed, and often host considerable numbers of horseshoe crabs.

If the water isn’t really your thing though, the island still has plenty to offer, including a cool little amusement park called Fantasy Island, complete with a giant ferris wheel, bumper cars, funnel cakes and an arcade with skeeball (oh yes, it really is the Jersey Shore). Right next door to that is a giant waterslide and an 18-hole mini-golf course, one of many on the island.

How I Spent My Time

Drinking at the Sea Shell Hotel right on the beach, sunbathing and reading on the sea side sands, swimming in the still chilly coastal waters, eating pizza and assorted Italian meats and cheeses, playing shuffle board, and enjoying the company of a beautiful girl.

The Bottom Line

While this was perhaps my best weekend of the entire summer thus far, there are several key barriers to overcome in getting here. First, you need a car to get onto the island, and second, you need a place to stay, and with the booming tourist industry, this will be neither cheap, nor easy unless you already know someone with a place here. If you can manage the trip however, you won’t regret it. Go ahead and splurge (you’ll have to, since the island is somewhat expensive) and enjoy everything LBI has to offer, including great seafood, beaches, bars, and even some good old fashioned family fun.
