A Little Tune

November25

Everybody loves a little Michigan J. Frog in their day.

I would amuse you more, except I still need to finish cleaning up and getting things organized.  In addition to our cleaning for guests, now we’ve added the task of cleaning to make space for a safe and prepping that area.  That involves at least cutting away the carpet, but possibly drylocking it.  We also have to move all of the dining room furniture out of the way and much of the family room furniture, too.  We’re going to minimize the number of steps they take by bringing it in the back door which means traveling through all of those areas before getting to the basement.

Oh, but MY TURKEY!  I’m so excited by my turkey.  It’s my first ever turkey.  I hope I don’t screw it up.

The View of Victory

November23

I just had to add an ESPN widget to the sidebar that will allow all of you dear readers to enjoy the OU victory over Texas Tech tonight.  It is beautiful.

Smart PR by InBev

November20

In order to take over Anheuser-Busch, InBev had to do some serious PR work. It was the end of family control for an American company. However, InBev made a pledge to keep North American breweries open, including the St. Louis headquarters. But there’s a catch

InBev has promised to keep all 12 North American breweries open as long as the company faces no new U.S. taxes.

Considering the move to the far left by the House leadership, the increased Democratic presence in Congress, and the tax-loving President-elect, I think we can expect new taxes for a company as large as InBev. So now they get to close breweries, lay off American workers, and we can thank Barack Obama for it!

What’s to Come

November19

I’m going to head out of town tomorrow and won’t be back until either Friday or Saturday.  With that in mind, and the suddenly surge in comments, emails and IMs about the turkey, I’m showcasing a portion of our menu each day until Monday.

It’s even color coded because I’m a little nuts.

Another Cancer Vaccine on the Way

November17

This is cool news:

Professor Ian Frazer, of the University of Queensland, said tests of the vaccine had proven successful on animals and that human trials could begin next year. …

The jab would protect against squamous cell carcinoma, the second most common skin cancer, but not the more deadly melanomas.

It works by targeting papillomavirus, a common infection which can turn abnormal cells into cancerous cells and is believed to cause at least five per cent of all cancers.

Unfortunately, it sounds like it wouldn’t help me.  I’m extremely high risk, which is why I stay out of the sun and try to never forget the sunscreen.  (Basically one entire side of my family has had it.  Early detection is the key since it’s only gotten one person so far.)

However, it’s still good news.

There’s not a lot going on today that has my attention, so I thought I would post this video.  Because I can.

Tough Lobbyists

November16

When I think of tough lobbyists, I think of someone who almost always wins a negotiation. I don’t think of someone who wrestles deer.

A Maryland lobbyist was attacked by a deer outside his home and says the buck repeatedly stabbed him with its antlers, before he was able to wrestle the animal to the ground. …

“It came right at me, from about 10 feet away. I tried to run at an angle, but it caught me flush in the back right leg, impaled me with its weight, knocked me to the ground. It started to come right at my face with its antlers.”

The buck impaled Genn in the chest, but in the tussle he managed to land a swift kick to the animal’s underbelly, causing it to momentarily abate. Genn said he then screamed for his wife to get the dog. As his wife approached the dog, the deer rammed Genn for the third time.

“It impaled me in the groin area. At that point, literally, I took the antler and pulled it out of me.” …

Genn then grabbed the deer by the horns and pinned it to the ground for a couple of minutes, until the animal tired out. He said he then released the animal and quickly ran the other way.

Of course, then he gets weird and says it was clearly a Republican deer since he’s a Democrat and he had an Obama sign in his lawn.

Two Pet Peeves

November12
  1. I hate the new iGoogle page and the way it handles Gmail.  I want full Gmail, not Gmail with no links and crappy formatting.
  2. This is mostly directed at Sebastian’s readers: It’s donor, not donater.

That is all for now.  I’m sure I’ll be annoyed by something else shortly.

Molly Murphy’s – A Look Back in Time

November11

Any Oklahoma readers should remember Molly Murphy’s. Who didn’t love that place? Today I got the urge to Google it after talking about Kenny Rogers since Bam-Bam the waiter was one who would comment on it anytime we went there to eat. I found this investor video from the 80s and had to share.

They averaged capacity crowd every night, yet they still went out of business. There’s a poll up on their website about a location for a new Molly Murphy’s, though I can’t imagine it’s done with any seriousness. Too bad.

Anyone know how long Mickey Ratt ultimately worked there?  He was our waiter at one point.  And I know this video had to have been made before I ever visited.
